Book showing examples and tests of digitalizing and auto tracing of letters and the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods. As raw material for my digitalization I was chosen an old sans-serif alphabet made by the Dutch architect J. L. M. Lauweriks (1864-1932). In the description of the original hand drawing from 1900, the alphabet is called Quadratuuralfabet. The name of the lettering sheet is referring to the underlying square grid which each of the letters is based on. The alphabet is fully geometric constructed and therefore it has some disharmonious and clumsy solution to some of the letters. Though the attempts to make the letters geometric correct has resulted in some clumsiness, it also has some interesting rigidly and disharmonious characteristic, which I like and find pleasant.
The project was part of my exchange study at the KABK (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague)
